#ROW80: Life Happens

So, it’s true, the whole idea behind ROW80. Sometimes things happen you really weren’t expecting. Someone close to me, an alcoholic, hit rock bottom this week. I’ve been dealing with fallout, and feeling pretty emotionally drained.

I managed about 1,500 words this week, squeaking through the 4,000 mark for total word count on this new book. Terrible. And Monday I go camping for a few days. Maybe I’ll take the manuscript I need to edit with me — might be a nice change of pace. But no new words on the urban fantasy until next Friday at least, unless I can get a few in today.

I’m going to wait a couple of weeks to see how this affects my overall goal, but I’m thinking I might reduce my word count goal to 30,000. I still need to publish Tribute, and edit and revise Vessel. I don’t want to let stuff I’ve already written sit on a shelf.

  1. Sounds like you have had quite a week and I hope that your friend is ok. In my eyes 1,500 words is a brilliant word count especially for a bad week.

Enjoy the change of scene camping will give you and I hope you have a positive week.

  2. I agree. 1500 is great when going through such a draining situation. You may find the camping trip will help clear your head and you can come back ready to dive back in!

  3. Hey it all adds up! that’s still 1500 you didn’t have before. Sounds like you’ve had a pretty full week so don’t get down. Camping sounds fun BTW maybe just the break you need 😀

  4. It sounds like you’ve been dealing with a lot. Alcoholism is an issue close to my heart, so warmest wishes – it’s really hard when people we love and care about struggle with this horrible disease.

Despite all the crap going on, sounds like you’ve accomplished quite a bit this week! That was 1500 words you didn’t have before.

Have fun camping! In my personal experience, camping is a great way to get away from the distractions of television and Internet and write.

  5. I’m so sorry about your friend. I hope everything works out. And don’t worry about the goals too much. Sometimes life just happens and there’s not a lot you can do. You’re still working amazingly hard.

Best of luck to you and your friend!

  6. Hang in there. That would be a rough week for any caring friend. That you got anything accomplished is wonderful. I hope your camping trip refreshes you.

  7. I’m sorry that you’re having to deal with all that. But ROW80 is a forgiving challenge, so you never have to feel like you failed. I still have an unfinished manuscript from round one because my mom had a heart attack during that time, and I just had too much to deal with. But I didn’t feel guilty because ROW80 people understand that life happens. Take care of everyone you need to, and take care of yourself. The stories will always be there waiting for you

  8. If we write only 300 words a day, we’ll have a 75,000-word manuscript in 35 weeks. I’d say 4,000 words rocks! I hope you and the one who’s close to you have better days ahead.

P.S. I’m a new follower who found you through Marlena Cassidy’s blog.
